Tre’Quan Smith a Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Must Add, Stretch Run Hero Upside

We've been on the Tre'Quan Smith train for a while now...

Sound the Penny Stock Alarm! Saints rookie WR Tre’Quan Smith’s upside is soaring after Ted Ginn was placed on IR, making him an immediate waiver wire must-add. With Ginn removed, Smith’s path is clear for heavy usage in the league’s most prolific passing attack. In fact, in his last game — his first without Ginn — Smith hauled in 3 catches for 111 and 2 TDs.

Smith will become the unquestioned deep threat for this attack, but too many will pigeon hole him into the “Ginn Role.” Instead, we feel his upside is far greater, as he brings a whole lot more to the table.

This summer, Saints beat Nick Underhill, one of the most reliable out there, joined our Fantasy Fullback Dive Pod, and raved about Tre’Quan’s camp performance. He gushed about how Smith’s dominance compared to Mike Thomas’ rookie season camp, noting he, “Runs the whole route tree, he can get deep, he can make contested catches.”

Also working in Smith’s favor is a joke Rest of Season schedule. Outside of this weekend versus the Ravens, no threatening matchups loom. In fact, Smith comes with the easiest Playoff Schedule among WRs, with matchups against Tampa Bay (most generous) and Pittsburgh (3rd easiest) on the docket.

Thus, with tons of individual talent + a solid usage bump + the best Surrounding Talent possible + a cakewalk slate, Smith has all the ingredients for a genuine blow-up. Cameron Meredith also deserves more consideration and should be owned in case he’s the one who ends up benefiting, but all our chips are sliding into Tre’Quan’s corner.

Every season stretch run heroes emerge, and Smith (along with Nick Chubb now) looks primed to be one of 2018’s best.
