RotoVegas | NFL Week 5 Fantasy Football Results and Breakdown

As the NFL regular season moves into Quarter No. 2, we’re back with another great week of #RotoVegas. Here’s hoping your holiday weekend was more of a Graham Gano day and not Mason Crosby.

As always, 5 fantasy-related polls were posted to our Twitter and Instagram Story this week, pinning fantasy studs against each other in a Vegas-style spread format. The readers have had an abysmal showing in back to back weeks; let’s see if you guys turned it around in Week 5.

1. Matt Ryan is our QB2 this week against the Steelers, and a 6-point favorite over Cam Newton, who faces off against the Giants. Who you got?

Ryan -6: 67%
Newton +6: 33%

Winner: Newton +6

Truth be told, neither quarterback in this matchup lived up to pregame expectations this week. Matt Ryan found himself in what should’ve been an absolute shootout in Pittsburgh, but it appears only the Steelers got that memo. They put up a cool 41 points while holding Ryan’s Falcons to 17 and Ryan himself to 285 passing yards and just 14.4 fantasy points. Cam Newton wasn’t incredible either, racking up 237 yards and 2 TDs but also adding 2 INTs, but his performance was enough to win him this matchup with 16.4 points.

2. Kareem Hunt faces a tough Jags D this week, but still remains our RB9. He’s a 4-point favorite against Marshawn Lynch, our RB12 in a matchup against the Chargers. Who’s your pick?

Hunt -4: 47%
Lynch +4: 53%

Winner: Hunt -4

This one was close in the voting, but nowhere near as close on the field. Marshawn Lynch rushed 9 times for just 31 yards on Sunday, and after another goal-line blunder by his quarterback, I honestly think he’s just losing his mind at this point. His day netted him just 6.1 PPR points, putting him over 10 points behind Kareem Hunt‘s total. Hunt turned 22 rushes into 87 yards and a TD and added a 7-yard reception in Kansas City’s win over Jacksonville. Another week, another 0-2 start for the readers.

3. Adam Thielen looks to build on a strong start when he faces the Eagles, while Golden Tate looks to do the same against the Packers. The line is Thielen -4; who you got?

Thielen -4: 74%
Tate +4: 26%

Winner: Thielen -4

Finally the voters get on the board, and it was a great pick. Both Adam Thielen and Golden Tate have been red-hot to start 2018, but only one continued that hot start into Week 5. Tate had a respectable day, catching 5 of 7 targets for 42 yards, but it came out to his lowest yardage total of the season so far. He finished with just 9.2 PPR points, and Thielen blew that out of the water with the 6th-best showing from a WR this week. Thielen hauled in 7 of 10 targets for 116 yards and a score, finishing the day with 24.6 points. The Vikings star has now surpassed 100 yards receiving in every game this year.

4. Jared Cook is our TE5 in a matchup with the Chargers, while David Njoku is our TE10 against the Ravens. With Cook a 5-point favorite, who are you taking?

Cook -5: 57%
Njoku +5: 43%

Winner: Njoku +5

Despite being tied for 2nd on the team with 6 targets on Sunday, the Raiders Jared Cook was only good for 20 yards on 4 receptions against the Chargers. This gave him just 6 points, matching about half the total put up by David Njoku in Cleveland’s first divisional win since October 2015. Njoku turned a team-high 11 targets into 6 catches for 69 yards, netting him 12.9 points and an easy win against the spread in this matchup.

5. The Titans D is our top option when they play the lowly Bills, and they’re a 4-point favorite over the Ravens defensive unit, who’ll face the Browns. Who you got?

Titans -4: 51%
Ravens +4: 49%

Winner: Ravens +4

And to round out Week 5 we have the closest poll in #RotoVegas history. This one was a 50/50 split on Twitter, but the Instagram vote helped Tennessee barely squeak this one out. The matchup was close on the field, too, with Tennessee’s defense outscoring Baltimore’s by just 1 point, giving the Ravens the win ATS. In a week with some incredible defensive performances (Cincinnati put up 24!), both of these teams were very average. Both picked off one pass and gave up less than 14 points, but the Ravens sacked Baker Mayfield 5 times on Sunday, which kept this matchup close enough for them to lock down the W. Which means, yes, ANOTHER 1-4 week for the readers. This makes 3 in a row, and sets the season series to 16-9 in my favor.

Be sure to vote each week on our Twitter account and Instagram Story, and check back after the games are over for the breakdown. If you enjoy it, tell your friends! Nothing would make me happier than getting this series big enough that I can take your money for real. And if you have any questions about real-life wagers or fantasy, hit me up on Twitter as well.
