Fantasy Football Week 10: Stream Team

Welcome back to the Stream Team where we sift through the waiver wire and assemble and all-star squad full of players under 50% ownership. We are officially on a heater. After three consecutive weeks scoring over 75 points, and coming off a 103.48 points performance in Week 8, Week 9’s Stream Team had a lot to prove. And prove it we did. The Stream Team scored its second highest total of the year in Week 9 with 103.54 fantasy points, once again proving research and attention to detail can help rule your fantasy football league. The Rams connection of Jared Goff to Robert Woods proved to be the pick of the week as they combined to score 49.44 fantasy points. But let’s not forget about Matt Forte chipping in 23.60 fantasy points in what appeared, on paper, as a difficult matchups against a stout Bills run defense. Research, research, research. I will preach it in fantasy until the day I die. The Week 10 schedule offers a difficult test for us streamers as the matchups profile more difficult than usual, especially given all the bye week players. So let’s get our hands dirty and scout the matchups for Week 10.

QB: Josh McCown, QB, New York Jets (34% Yahoo ownership)

Accountable for at least two touchdowns in each of his last five starts and averaging 20.73 points since Week 6, Josh McCown finds himself in very unfamiliar territory: a startable fantasy commodity. And while the Jets still appear to lack the necessary offensive skill players to make him an every-week starter, McCown has definitely at least earned the title of matchup-play starter. And in Week 10 it does not get much better for a quarterback than a matchup against a Tampa Bay defense allowing the 6th most points to opposing quarterbacks. With some important byes in Week 10, you can do far worse in the QB department, so let’s ride the hot hand to another multi-TD day.

Running Back

RB1: Matt Forte, RB, New York Jets (42% Yahoo ownership)

As McCown’s best compliment in the pass game recently, Matt Forte‘s ownership still remains at mind-bogglingly low levels. Since Week 6 Forte has caught 23 passes and amassed 302 total yards for two touchdowns, providing solid, consistent floor production on par with that of an RB2. The Bucs have been constantly gashed this year by opposing, prolific pass-catching running backs, most recently Alvin Kamara (6/84/1 touchdown), so expect Forte to be heavily involved in the game plan on Sunday. If Forte can’t go Sunday, look for Elijah McGuire to take over Forte’s pass catching role.

RB2: Damien Williams, RB, Miami Dolphis (33% Yahoo ownership)

While Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams appear to be involved in a running-back-by-committee scenario, both played effectively Week 9 against the Raiders. Sure, Drake led the Dolphins in rushing yards with 69 on nine carries, but he did fumble and Williams led the Dolphins with 6 catches, totaling 61 yards while scoring once. Carolina deploys one of the best and stingiest run defenses in the league, so expect the Dolphins to keep the ball in Jay Cutler‘s hands (did I really just say that?). With the passing attack the primary means of offense for the Dolphins in Week 10, expect more than a handful of targets and receptions for Williams, providing you a decent floor.

Wide Receiver

WR1: Robert Woods, WR, Los Angeles Rams (34% Yahoo ownership)

Yet another Week 9 Stream Teamer, Robert Woods continues to be the Rams (NFL leading 32.9 points per game) best skill player not named Todd Gurley. Woods leads the Rams in targets, receptions and yardage, and finds himself just one score back of the team lead in receiving touchdowns after grabbing his first two of the year last week. Their Week 10 opponent, the Houston Texans, allow the 7th most points to opposing wide receivers, and recently just got torched by T.Y. Hilton (5/175/2 scores) and Paul Richardson (6/105/2 scores). They may not look like the Greatest Show on Turf on paper, but this Rams team is playing as well as any team in the league on offense.

WR2: Marqise Lee, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars (37% Yahoo ownership)

Leading the Jaguars in yards, receptions and targets, Marqise Lee is having a terrific season. And wouldn’t you know, Lee finds himself ranked as the #1 RSJ waiver wire claim for Week 10! In Week 9 Lee enjoyed his best game of the season (8/75/1 touchdown) against one of the better pass defenses in the NFL, so a matchup against a middle of the road Charger secondary should not scare us streamers. Sure, I expect Leonard Forunette to run with a vengeance after the Jags held him out Week 9 for violating team policy, but Lee continues dominating the targets for Jacksonville receivers. With no real competition for targets, expect Lee to continue his solid floor play as a WR3 with WR2 upside.

Tight End

TE:  Tyler Kroft, TE, Cincinnati Bengals (41% Yahoo ownership)

Tic-tac-toe three in a row! With his appearance in this Week 10 Stream Team, Tyler Kroft is the first ever member to make 3 consecutive appearances in this series. Gift basket coming your way Tyler. And rightfully so. Scoring at least 7.1 fantasy points in 4 of his last 5 games, Kroft’s consistent volume and usage makes him a weekly back-end TE1. Even though the NFL did not suspend A.J. Green for this Sunday’s game, expect Kroft to continue gaining chemistry with Andy Dalton.

Flex: Corey Davis, WR, Tennessee Titans (45% Yahoo ownership)

One of RSJ’s favorite waiver wire names for the rest of this season, Corey Davis still ashamedly finds himself available in 55% of leagues. And while Davis did not light the world on fire in Week 9, he did play 75% of the snaps, proving that his health is no longer an issue. No one in the Titans receiving corps has dared take the lead, leaving the door wide open for Davis’ resilient return as a potential WR2 in the making. I saw Week 9 against a tough Ravens secondary as more of an acclamation game, so expect Marcus Mariota to use this explosive, skilled player much more Week 10.

K: Chris Boswell, K, Pittsburgh Steeler (24% Yahoo ownership)

Kicker in a dome playing for a team with a high implied team total. Yada, yada. Same message, different week. Chris Boswell (18/20 on the year) looks like Mr. Automatic, and the chances should be early and often for the Steelers, currently projected as a 10 points favorite and a 27 implied team total. With the Steelers grooving on offense, expect double digits from the Pittsburgh kicker. Can you “Yada, yada” sex? Let’s ask Elaine.

D:  Green Bay Packers DST (44% Yahoo ownership)

While the Green Bay Packers DST are not getting after the quarterback this year, they have caused multiple turnover in four of their past five games, and at least one in 8 of 9 on the season, giving their owners a solid floor performance. And in Week 10 the Packers travel to Chicago to face a Bears team ranked 27th in points per game at 16.8. While Jordan Howard may be dangerous, expect the Packers to stack the box and force rookie Mitchell Trubiksy (47.5% completion percentage, 66.3 QB rating) to beat them on Sunday.

And that’s a wrap for Week 10 of the Fantasy Football Streamers. Be sure to check back every Tuesday to see where to turn to next and get the early leg up on your opponent. Until next time, good luck and godspeed, and may the fantasy football gods forever be in your favor.
